Job Summary
The Electrical Engineer supports the Engineering Department in delivering safe, resilient, and efficient technical operations across the VIRTUS Data Centre portfolio. The role focuses on developing strong technical understanding of site infrastructure, ensuring high-quality commissioning, supporting engineering change management, and advising operations teams on best practices. The postholder will also contribute to improvements in infrastructure performance, capacity management, energy efficiency, and compliance with all health, safety, and fire standards.
Main Duties:
The role includes but is not limited to the following: -
· Develop a technical understanding of all building services, systems and components within the VIRTUS Data Centres portfolio.
· To be a contributing integral member of the Engineering Department, supporting the team with its various objectives
· Ensure Commissioning is completed to a consistent quality and standard, in line with VIRTUS Commissioning Principles.
· Undertake projects of an engineering nature under the direction of the Senior Electrical Engineering Manager and Engineering discipline subject matter specialists.
· Review the Engineering aspects of change approval tickets within the VIRTUS change management system, ensuring works implemented are aligned with industry best practices and VIRTUS operational golden rules.
· Survey and report on existing electrical installations for defects and issues which could lead to service impact. This could extend into other disciplines, subject to agreement.
· Support the day-to-day electrical engineering activities across VIRTUS data centres.
· Support the Engineering Department in identifying opportunities to improve site infrastructure and reduce our power usage effectiveness.
· Correlate, examine and report on Capacity of Installed infrastructure as part of the Data Centre capacity management.
· Support the Campus Technical Teams in an advisory nature on Engineering requirements.
· Support the management of all site infrastructure schematic drawings.
· Advisor to site operations teams on optimising existing technical infrastructure, balancing energy effectiveness with resilience.
· Understand and increase knowledge of data centre buildings services, systems and component’s operation by involvement with manufacturing, construction, installation and operational testing of building services equipment, further, to confirm that it meets functional specifications and customer requirements.
· Support VIRTUS in ensuring that all fire, health and safety regulations and best practices are upheld.
· Proactively Identify areas of improvement to promote ‘best in class’ monitoring systems in line with technological advances to operate as the market leader.
· Undertake PMS projects under the direction of the Senior Electrical Engineer.
· Collaborate with the campus operations teams in reducing all PMS alarms on all data centres across the VIRTUS portfolio.
· Any other reasonable requests made by your line manager.
Person Specification
Qualifications:
Essential:
· City and Guilds, NVQ or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical discipline
· OND/ HND in engineer or equivalent would be preferable.
Experience:
Essential:
· Commercial experience of electrical or mechanical system.
Desirable:
· Mission Critical Environment I.e. Hospitals & Data Centres.
· ASHRAE Electrical or Mechanical Commissioning Understanding.
· Fire Detection and Fire suppression systems.
· BMS and PMS (Trend, Citect Scada, Schneider PMO, Schneider StructureWare).
· Control Systems (Zelio logic and PLCs).
· Electrical/Mechanical/Controls and Fire & Life Safety conceptual design.
